I’ve always loved the ‘photographic accident’ (or design). Bleaching, blurs, over exposure and under exposure have a filmic quality that seems somehow more ‘real’, or less staged than beautifully taken photos with perfect exposures. I’m not saying I like the accident more, I just like the way they make me feel.
One evening in Northumberland a while back I asked to be dropped off a couple of miles from where we were staying so I could walk back through the village towards the unlit country roads to take hand held long exposures.
If I’m honest part of the reason why I wanted to do this, was for the adrenalin rush. Living in London gets you used to a constant milky glow of street lamps and when I am surrounded by pitch black I remember running to get home before it got too dark and my imagination ran riot.
